subsequent irritation of the ulnar nerve, usually in the area of the elbow.<\/p><h2><strong>Why does it occur and what are the causes affecting the ulnar nerve?<\/strong><\/h2><p>The <strong>ulnar nerve<\/strong> is one of the 3 most important nerves of the upper limb. It passes behind the inner side of the elbow and is responsible for movement and sensation in a large part of the fingers of the hand. As it passes behind the elbow, it may sometimes become compressed, which is why ulnar neuritis occurs. Predisposing factors for ulnar neuritis include manual work and repetitive activities with the elbow in flexion (such as computer use). Mr Leonidou will take a detailed medical history and examine you. An X-ray will be required to confirm that the nerve is not being compressed by osteophytes (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/leonidou.gr\/en\/osteoarthritida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">osteoarthritis<\/a><\/span>) in the elbow. The exercises aim to reduce pain and restore the range of motion of the elbow.<\/p><\/li><li><p>Use of a night splint to keep the elbow straight.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><h2><strong>Exercises and prevention for ulnar neuritis<\/strong><\/h2><p>Prolonged bending of the elbow should be avoided in everyday life. In addition to work, other activities that predispose to and aggravate ulnar neuritis include continuous and prolonged use of a tablet and mobile phone. Also, while driving, it is advisable not to rest the elbow on hard surfaces for prolonged periods. Good stretching exercises for the elbow and wrist help relieve symptoms and may sometimes prevent ulnar neuritis.<\/p><h2><strong>Surgical Treatment<\/strong><\/h2><p>If conservative treatment fails or in advanced forms of neuritis, release of the ulnar nerve offers a <strong>definitive solution<\/strong> with excellent functional outcomes. The release is performed through a small incision on the inner side of the elbow.
