WHAT IS PRP?
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is an innovative method in which autologous growth factors from activated platelets are used for the treatment of certain orthopaedic conditions. Growth factors help combat local inflammation and promote healing of muscle and tendon conditions.
STEM CELLS
Supporting Natural Healing After Shoulder Tendon Repair
During shoulder arthroscopy procedures, when tendon repair is performed, stem cell injection may be applied with the aim of enhancing the healing process. This treatment utilises the regenerative potential of the body, contributing to improved tissue recovery, reduced postoperative discomfort, and faster return of the patient to daily activities.
INDICATIONS FOR THE USE OF PRP
The regenerative action of PRP has applications in the following orthopaedic conditions:
Acute and chronic tendinitis (Achilles tendinitis, elbow epicondylitis – tennis elbow, shoulder tendinitis, patellar tendinitis)
Ligament injuries (ankle sprain, plantar fasciitis)
Chondropathy (early arthropathy, patellar chondromalacia, cartilage injuries)
As an adjunct during surgery: To promote healing in cases where tendon repair has been performed (such as the rotator cuff of the shoulder)
PROCEDURE – PREPARATION
Preparation for PRP treatment, as well as the injection itself, is performed in the clinic without the need for hospitalisation. The doctor collects a small amount of blood through venipuncture from a peripheral vein (approximately 10 ml) and places it in a specialised centrifugation device. After centrifugation is completed, the doctor obtains the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and injects it into the affected area under ultrasound guidance.
AFTER THE TREATMENT
Once the procedure is completed, the patient returns to their daily activities, avoiding intense exercise and weightlifting for the next three days. After a PRP injection, there may be some local discomfort in the area. Ice therapy and simple analgesics are recommended only.
During the first week after a PRP injection, the patient should avoid taking anti-inflammatory medication, as it may affect the effectiveness of the injection. The patient will be monitored by a physiotherapist from our team, following an individualised rehabilitation protocol.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PRP TREATMENT?
- Non-invasive
- No need for hospitalisation
- Avoidance or delay of surgery
- Autologous factors – low complication rates
HOW EFFECTIVE IS PRP TREATMENT?
PRP treatment provides good results both in pain relief and in the patient’s functional recovery. It is a safe technique with extremely low complication rates. Evaluation of treatment effectiveness usually requires four to six weeks.
HOW MUCH DOES PRP TREATMENT COST?
The cost is quite affordable. For more information, please contact us.
