Hyaluronic Acid Injection

Hyaluronic acid injections are a minimally invasive treatment option for certain orthopaedic conditions. Hyaluronic acid is frequently used in orthopaedics, as it is a substance naturally found in articular cartilage and synovial fluid. It acts as a “lubricant” for the joints, contributing to shock absorption and smoother, improved movement. Hyaluronic acid injections are mainly performed in patients with osteoarthritis or chondropathy.

WHICH CONDITIONS CAN BE TREATED WITH HYALURONIC ACID INJECTIONS?

Hyaluronic acid injections are a treatment option that can help improve pain caused by osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis gradually damages the articular cartilage and reduces the concentration of hyaluronic acid in the synovial fluid. Hyaluronic acid injections can be performed in all joints affected by osteoarthritis (knee, shoulder, etc.).

It has been scientifically proven that patients with milder forms of osteoarthritis benefit more from hyaluronic acid injections.

HOW MANY INJECTIONS ARE REQUIRED?

The treatment protocol is personalised for each patient and depends on the concentration of hyaluronic acid. Usually, 3 injections are required over a period of several weeks, or one high-concentration injection is administered as a single treatment.

Although not all patients respond in the same way to hyaluronic acid injections, most patients experience positive results and reduced pain. It usually takes a few weeks for the benefits of the injection to become noticeable. The effects of injections may last from months to years. If symptoms recur, the injections can be repeated.

HYALURONIC ACID INJECTION: ADVANTAGES

Hyaluronic acid injections offer several advantages:

  • Hyaluronic acid injection is performed in the clinic, without the need for hospitalisation.

  • Non-invasive procedure.

  • Avoidance or delay of surgery.

  • Low complication rates.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF HYALURONIC ACID?

Side effects of hyaluronic acid injections may include temporary pain and swelling in the joint. However, it is important that after receiving the injections, the affected joint is not subjected to excessive strain. Patients should avoid certain activities for two days after treatment.
