Dr Andreas Leonidou

Mr Leonidou specialises in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the upper limb and knee. He is Director of the Minimally Invasive Orthopaedic Surgery Clinic at Athens Medical Center in Marousi. He returned to Greece after 14 years in the United Kingdom, having served at the highest permanent consultant level as a Substantive Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.

He is a specialist surgeon in upper limb surgery, knee surgery, and sports injuries, having completed both his orthopaedic training and subspecialty fellowship training in his field in England. He worked continuously in the United Kingdom from 2005 to 2019, gaining extensive surgical experience. He maintains a detailed, certified operative logbook documenting more than 6,500 surgical procedures.

He is a graduate of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Medical School. After graduation, he began working in the United Kingdom, where, through continuous assessment, regular examinations, and interviews, he completed his specialist training in Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

After completing his specialist training, he undertook subspecialty training at the internationally renowned Reading Shoulder and Elbow Unit. He subsequently worked as a Consultant in the same unit and later at East Kent University Hospitals.

He manages the full spectrum of orthopaedic trauma, with particular expertise in the treatment of complex shoulder and elbow fractures. He specialises in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow, and knee, with extensive surgical experience and a high volume of cases. He also performs minimally invasive stemless reverse shoulder arthroplasty.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, having successfully completed the relevant examinations. He holds a postgraduate degree in Orthopaedic Engineering from Cardiff University and a PhD from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

He is an instructor on the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Course and the internationally renowned Reading Shoulder and Elbow Course. He frequently travels across Europe, where he teaches the technique of stemless reverse shoulder arthroplasty.

From 2017 to 2019, he was the first Greek surgeon to be elected to the Education Committee of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS). In 2020, he was elected to the Membership Committee of the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow (SECEC/ESSSE).

Following his return to Greece, his aim is to provide his patients with the most advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques, in accordance with international standards.
