WHAT IS MUSCULOSKELETAL ULTRASOUND
Musculoskeletal ultrasound is a safe, painless, and reliable diagnostic method for musculoskeletal conditions. It is used for the evaluation of both chronic and acute orthopaedic conditions and injuries/trauma. Dr Leonidou uses ultrasound as part of the one-stop clinic, avoiding unnecessary additional time-consuming and costly examinations. Furthermore, with the assistance of ultrasound, he accurately performs all medication injections and joint aspirations, ensuring the best possible outcome.
WHICH MUSCULOSKELETAL CONDITIONS REQUIRE ULTRASOUND EXAMINATION
The most common indications are the following:
All shoulder and elbow conditions, especially tendinitis / tendon tears
Rupture or muscle strain, ligament, or tendon injuries
Inflammation or fluid collection in joints
Nerve entrapment syndromes, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
Soft tissue tumours
Foreign bodies
Sports injuries (such as patellar tendinitis, iliotibial band syndrome)
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE ULTRASOUND EXAMINATION?
Wear loose clothing over the area that will be examined. Dr Leonidou will apply a special water-soluble gel to the skin during the ultrasound examination, which is removed at the end of the examination.
